STORY: Clapping for carers, “it conveys a sense of togetherness, of belonging.” Donna Watson:

I appreciate all the nhs are doing but isn’t it a bit much everyone outside the hospital last week. Police and fire service with the nurses and children all quite close together. These nurses could be treating covid 19 patients. No social distancing doesn’t make sense.

Estelle Fenwick:

For goodness sake it gives people a good feeling to come out of the house, clap for those people who put their lives on the line for you all and have a chat with the neighbours.

John Gillon:

I don’t think some people realise the hardships some of these staff face day in day out. If clapping or going and and cheering each other on lifts morale then who are we to judge. I think we should just be grateful we have a health service and some great staff at the front line in our emergency departments and critical care units who put themselves in harms way day in day our.

Jennifer Orton:

Personally I don't clap, I support the NHS by staying safe and keeping away from others as much as possible so I dont end up in hospital taking up their time and putting extra strain on them. I also pay for my prescriptions or buy the meds/alcohol sanitiser I need from a shop.

STORY:

More virus deaths confirmed in Sunderland.

Linda Huxtable:

In Preston and Chorley number of cases have fallen to zero. Questions should be asked why the North East cases are rising.

Lynne Peverley:

This has to be down to the lack of some people social distancing .... appalling figures for the city.

Judith Hood:

My sister and thousands of other NHS staff are putting and have put their lives on the line working on covid-19 wards, haven’t seen family in over 5 weeks, buying their own PPE masks, getting people to donate toiletries for patients as family not allowed to visit, what the hell do some people want from our NHS, when there’s still thousands disregarding the guides the gov have set out. Having people to their homes, congregating in groups, We'll all end up losing someone at this rate, and I hope to God my sister isn't one of them.
