STORY:

Sunderland families have their say on children returning to school after coronavirus lockdown.

Jean Burnip:

Way too soon, people are still losing their lives. We all want to get back to our normal lives, but at the minute its too dangerous. Please don’t use our kids and school staff as guinea pigs, let’s leave it to at least September. Other countries are having second waves of the virus, this could very well happen in the UK.

Lynn Richardson:

It is too soon as if it is keep being said they could bring the infection home to my daughter who has a husband who works away and if she was to get it then who looks after the children. That's what needs to be considered as we all think about opening school.

Eileen Joyce:

No I don’t think they should it can’t work can it? How many kids can fit into one class if they’re keeping the 2 metre rule? Plus how can you tell 4/5/6 year olds to socially distanced? It’s impossible so leave the schools closed until it’s safe.

Allison Hinchcliffe:

Just cause they are saying this is the new normal, people are still losing their love ones. At a rate that is still to high. My kids are all grown up but my grand kids at all school age, you can't tell a 3 year old or higher to 2 metre away from their friends, first thing they are all gonna do is hug their friends. I think after summer holidays then start slowing to open schools.

Kay Armstrong:

Too many people are still dying from this virus better to be safe than sorry.

Fiona M Matthews:

I'm worried for my daughter who's joining year 7 in September, such a big step for year 6s. They should be having visits to the big school now, but it's unsafe to send them back now. June is too soon. I'm sure schools can support kids in September, we should wait til then.

Kirsty Dickson:

This virus is going nowhere until a vaccine is created which could take years, are we to stay in permanent lockdown until then? Once that time comes there will be no shops, no restaurants, no bars, no cinemas or leisure facilities, no airlines to take us on holiday. The economy as we knew it would be finished.

Angela Young I’m not happy to send my son back to school.
