Wetherspoons gets ready for reopening
Pub giant Wetherspoon is gearing up to reopen pubs across Sunderland.
Although no details have been announced of when pubs, bars and restaurants will be able to reopen, the firm has released details of the measures it will take to protect customers and staff when the lockdown is eased.
Wetherspoon, which has The Cooper Rose and the William Jameson in Sunderland city centre, as well as pubs in Washington, Houghton and across County Durham, says it has consulted with employees as well as suppliers and contractors, and is working to UK Hospitality guidelines.
The firm will be employing at least two full time staff members per pub who will regularly clean surfaces and touch points.
All pubs will have screens at the till point and screens will also be used to create seating areas where it is not possible to separate tables adequately.
Gloves, masks and protective eyewear will be provided for staff and there will be hand sanitiser dispensers around each pub, including at the entrance. Every employee will need to complete and sign a daily health assessment questionnaire to confirm that they are fit to work, including having their temperature taken using a digital thermometer and dedicated staff will monitor the pubs at all times in order to maintain social distancing
Pubs will use one entrance, with a separate exit door where possible, and a member of staff on the door at peak times.
Entry and exit will be marked out by floor stickers and/or barriers.
