Family Fortunes is coming back to TV with chef Gino presenting
TV’s game show Family Fortunes is set to make a comeback with chef Gino D’Acampo as the new host.
The much-loved game show was last seen on our screens nearly two decades ago in 2002 with former Coronation Street star Les Dennis at the helm.
The programme surveyed members of the British public prior to filming before giving the same questions to two competing families who would aim to match their answers to that of the public.
The Italian chef and regular guest on daytime show This Morning will welcome a brand new batch of contestants on the show later this year.
A spokesperson for ITV said, “Family Fortunes is one of TV’s most-loved formats and ITV have been looking at when it might be right to bring it back”
“After a successful pilot earlier this year, they’re putting it back on primetime where it belongs.
“Gino is all but signed and they think he will bring his own unique brand of enthusiasm and charisma to the show.”
The original version of the show has seen several hosts since it first arrived on our screens in 1980, starting with Bob Monkhouse, who presented the show between 1980 and 1983, prior to Max Bygraves taking over.
Les Dennis then presented the show for 15 years, from 1987 until its end in 2002, before being shortly succeeded by Andy Collins, who hosted for a short period just before the show was taken off air.
After the regular programme was cancelled in 2002, a new, celebrity revival, featuring celebrities and their families, made an appearance in 2006, and was presented by Vernon Kay.
Kay presented the show for 12 series before it was axed in 2015.
D’Acamp is no stranger to television.
He has since presented cookery programmes including Let’s Do Lunch, There’s No Taste Like Home and Gino’s Italian Escape.
He has also appeared on Celebrity Juice which is fronted by comedy personality Keith Lemon.
In 2009 D’Acampo was crowned King of the Jungle in the ninth series of I’m a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here! After the show, D’Acampo and fellow contestant Stuart Manning were charged by the Australian police with animal cruelty - but the charges were later dropped.
