Strollers sell glass mementoes and raise £3,000 for charities

Harry Harrison, Strollers Chairman, said: “The club has always raised substantia­l sums for local charities, our annual Doorstep event in December generated over £3,500 for local charities.

“We decided to overcome the disappoint­ment of having to cancel one of the most popular races in the North East calendar by helping others who are in need during these challengin­g times.”

The 2021 Pier to Pier Race is scheduled for 16 May 2021 and over 1,000 of this year’s entries have accepted a transfer for the event from this year, the club offering full entry refunds to any entrants who requested.

The remaining 400 entries will go on sale in the autumn with complete sell-out expected for the fifth successive year.

Entry transfers will, as always, be available until the day before the race.

ThePiertoP­ierRacesta­rts on the beach at South Shields

Pier and follows a superb scenic route along the cliff paths past Marsden Rock and Souter Lighthouse.

It rejoins the beach at Whitburn and then finishes at Roker Pier in Sunderland.
