Seafront cafe’s windows smashed by vandals
Yobs have left the bosses of a popular Sunderland seafront cafe devastated and counting the cost after using rocks to smash its windows.
Fausto Coffee, in Marine Walk, Roker, discovered the damage yesterday morning.
In a message shared on its Facebook page, the team said they have been staying at home after it was closed under the Government’s orders under the coronavirus lockdown and using the time to give the cafe some “special TLC" and training staff, ready for when it reopens to the public.
The owners say they have already taken a financial hit due to the closure, with the added cost of the damage adding to its costs.
They believe the damage was caused between 8pm on Thursday and around 6am Friday, with hopes CCTV in the area will help investigations.
Police are appealing for help as inquiries get under way to find the vandals responsible.
Hundreds of messages of support have been sent to the business following the social post.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 8.20am Friday we received a report of criminal damage at Fausto Coffee, on Marine Walk, Sunderland.
“It was reported that overnight two large rocks had been thrown at the windows of the premises, which had subsequently been damaged.
“An investigation is ongoing.”
The police spokesperson added that anyone with information on the vandalism should contact the force via 101 or by using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on the Northumbria Police website, quoting log 177 190620.
