Former Sunderland goalkeeper & winger on the move this summer

-

Two former Sunderland AFC academy graduates are on the move this summer.

Goalkeeper Max Stryjek has confirmed he will not be signing a new deal with National League side Eastleigh and will be looking to move on after two spells at the club and 58 appearances.

Meanwhile, winger Rees Greenwood is moving abroad and has penned a deal with United Arab Emirates

side Al Sahel. That move is subject to a medical.

The 24-year-old wideman made just one appearance for Sunderland, Sam Allardyce handed him his debut in the final game of the season against Watford back in May 2016.

Greenwood – who is looking forward to the new challenge of playing abroad - played for Gateshead, Falkirk and Spennymoor

Town after leaving the Academy of Light.

He also had a spell with West Auckland Town.

Posting on his Instagram page, Greenwood said: “New challenge ahead. Delighted to sign for @alsahelfootballclub out in the Emirates. Big thanks @mccreerysports for helping me get it over the line. Excited for a new experience and can’t wait to get started.”

Stryjek, meanwhile, left Sunderland after struggling to break into the first team set-up and he is now looking for a new challenge after his spell with Eastleigh.

An Eastleigh club statement read: “Eastleigh Football Club can confirm that goalkeeper Max Stryjek will not be signing a new deal with the club.

“We would like to thank Max for his efforts during his time at the Silverlake, and wish him all the best for the next stage of his career.

“Stryjek made 58 appearances during his two spells at the club.” Stryjek has previous senior experience at Accrington Stanley and Boston United on loan.

The goalkeeper was rated highly by former Sunderland boss Jack Ross, who felt he had a chance of a first team future in red and white but he was released in the summer of 2019 and moved to Eastleigh, Stewart Donald’s former club, on a permanent deal. He is now looking for a fresh challenge.

*Manchester City have completed a swap deal that will see 18-year-old Spanish striker Pablo Moreno join them from Juventus, with Portuguese winger Felix Correia, 19, heading to the Serie A side.
