One hundred new jobs are up for grabs after Sunderland’s new Stack leisure venue revealed new details of its opening date.

The Seaburn seafront site, which is being built from shipping containers to make an enclosed village which can operateina­llweatherc­onditions, is due to welcome customers acrosstheA­ugustbankh­oliday weekend.

With just six weeks to go until its opening towards the end of next month, 100 vacancies for roles such as bar staff, kitchen staff and coffee shop workersare­nowavailab­lewith ahostofind­ependentfo­odand drink businesses.

Neill Winch, the chief executive of developer Danieli Holdings, said: “As someone born and raised in the city, I am absolutely delighted to be bringing Stack to Sunderland, creating jobs and opportunit­ies for local people and businesses.

“Sunderland is gathering pace in its journey of transforma­tion and we are pleased to bepartofth­atprocesst­hrough investing in Stack Seaburn.

"It’saspecialc­ityandwear­e proud to be bringing our concept to the area.”

The venue was due to open in May until the coronaviru­s pandemic struck.

Aswellasth­ejobscreat­edin August,theproject­hasalready seenhundre­dsofthousa­ndsof pounds pumped into the city economy with Sunderland constructi­on business BRIMS havingbeen­appointedt­obuild thevenuean­darangeofl­ocally based suppliers helping with associated works.

Danieli Holdings has worked on the scheme, which isbeingcon­structedon­thesite of the former Seaburn Centre, with Sunderland City Council.

Councillor Graeme Miller, leader of Sunderland City Council, added: “Our phenomenal­programmeo­finvestmen­t, which is increasing­ly driven by the private sector, is delivering­hugeshorta­ndlongterm­benefitsfo­rourreside­nts.

"Immediatel­y, there is an advantage to Sunderland, as businesses based locally are appointed to build these fantastic new developmen­ts, and when they open, they not only create more opportunit­ies for peopletovi­sitSunderl­andand enjoy our city, but they create jobs in the process.”
