Motor industry group’s drive to stay on track

-

A COVID-19 emergency response taskforce, launched by automotive firms in the region, is providing crucial support for members.

The North East Automotive Alliance’s COVID-19 emergency response

group was set up to share information, best practice during the pandemic.

NEAA chief executive Paul Butler said: “Very early into the pandemic Stephen Irish of Hyperdrive Innovation, an executive board member, requested we bring a group

together to share information and strategies.

"The results are a clear demonstration of the agility and impact of the cluster working to support its members.”

The group used digital technology to meet virtually on a weekly basis – initially

focusing on how to manage the response to the coronavirus, share best practice,

discuss key issues and use the NEAA as a catalyst to engage with key Government departments.”

Mr Butler added: “Since our launch the NEAA has acted on behalf of the region’s automotive sector.

“Our significant reach into industry was recognised by policy makers in Government. “We worked closely with Government departments to gather critical information and feedback on policy decisions. This was particularly pertinent regarding the job retention scheme, where members’ opinions were canvased and delivered within two hours prior to its announcement during the Prime Minister’s briefing event that evening.”

Work has also focused on informing restart strategies – with a best practice check sheet, compiled from across the group, distributed across the member network.
