More than 400 people have applied for the 100 jobs on offer at STACK Seaburn.

The sea front shipping container village will house a range of independent food and drink businesses when it opens to customers for the first time on August Bank Holiday weekend.

The development being built on the site of the former Seaburn Centre was due to open its doors in spring 2020, but saw work halted due to the Covid-19 crisis which forced widespread changes to how businesses could trade, with many having to close their doors.

Earlier in July, with just weeks to go until its opening on August 28, development bosses announced that it was looking to hire 100 people for roles such as bar staff, kitchen staff and coffee shop workers.

And within a week of advertising the jobs, STACK Seaburn has confirmed it has been “overwhelmed” by the amount of interest – receiving more than 400 applications for the positions.

Neill Winch, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Danieli Holdings Group, said: “We are overwhelmed by the amount of people who have responded to the job advert and sent through their CVs for consideration.

"It’s fantastic to see that so many people are interested in coming to work for us and want to be part of the

STACK community.

"It is really important to us that we not only create a great venue for people to visit but that we also create a great place for people to work.

"All applicants that are successful will play a big role in creating something special and unique for Sunderland and be part of a significant regeneration story for Sunderland.”

As well as the jobs created in August, the project has already seen hundreds of thousands of pounds pumped into the city economy with Sunderland construction business BRIMS having been appointed to build the venue and a range of locally based suppliers helping with associated works.

Next door to STACK, which is situated on the site of the former Pullman Lodge, work has begun on The Seaburn Inn, a new 40-bedroom pub with rooms being built by multi-awardwinning The Inn Collection Group.
