Man 34, charged after disturbance
A man has been charged with affray following a disturbance in Grange Villa which left an 18-year-old with serious injuries.
Police and ambulance crews were called to a disturbance in Albert Street, Grange Villa, on Saturday, which resulted in the teenager suffering serious injuries, believed to be a stab wound.
North East Ambulance Service confirmed a man was taken to hospital after suffering a stab wound during an assault.
The 34-year-old has been charged with affray and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
The man was remanded in custody following his arrest and appeared by video link at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
A further five men, who were arrested in connection with the incident, have been released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Officers investigating the incident are continuing to ask for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. Durham Constabulary said that the teenager had suffered serious injuries but they were not believed to be lifethreatening.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We received several calls to an incident on Albert Street at around 9.24pm to reports of a man who had been assaulted and was suffering from a stab wound.
"We sent a hazardous area response team, a paramedic ambulance and a specialist paramedic and transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”
