Arrest after man suffers stab wounds

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing in Sunderland, police have said.

Northumbri­a Police has said that officers were called to Kenya Road in Downhill after 10pm on Thursday to reports that a man has been assaulted.

When police officers arrived on the scene they discovered a 46-year-old injured man who they believe had been stabbed. He was then taken to hospital for treatment and police say that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatenin­g.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the incident.

Police have said that they believe the two men were known to one another.

A Northumbri­a Police spokespers­on said: “Shortly after 10pm yesterday, we received a report a man had been assaulted at an address on Kenya Road, Sunderland.

“Officers attended the scene and found a 46-yearold man with injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatenin­g injuries.

“An investigat­ion has been launched and a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. "He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with their inquiries. “At present, all parties involved are believed to be known to each other. “inquiries are ongoing and anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by ringing 101 quoting log 1161 300720.”
