Hospice thanks all its fundraisers during crisis

-

Hospice staff have thanked those who have gone the extra mile to help raise vital funds.

St Benedict’s Hospice, in Sunderland, is facing unprecedented times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Like many other charities, it has seen income drop due to a number of events being cancelled.

Last week, the hospice announced they were cancelling their annual ‘Sunflower Ball’ fundraiser in November, following the cancellation of the Sunderland Running Festival, annual summer fayre, proposed trip to India and more.

Despite this, the hospice remains optimistic and has thanked every person who has helped contribute in some way during this challenging period. Hannah Sewell from Sunderland is taking on the challenge of walking one million steps to raise money for the charity her late dad supported. Matt Blackman, head of transport at St Benedict’s Hospice, will tackle the 130 miles of the Coast to Coast Cycle route in late September.

Anthony McDermott, head of challenge events at St Benedict’s, said: “It’s amazing how the general public have continued to show their love for St Benedict’s Hospice over these challenging times.”
