Cats’ target turns down Millers move, says report
Sunderland target Scott Fraser has knocked-back a move to Championship newcomers Rotherham United, according to reports.
The Daily Record claim that the midfielder has turned down the chance to join the Millers, and is now attracting interest from Stoke City.
Former Burton Albion star Fraser was a target for the Black Cats prior to the introduction of the League One salary cap last week, with Phil Parkinson admitting that the club have now had to rethink their targets after the £2.5million wage ceiling was implemented.
Another name linked with Sunderland this summer was Northampton Town centre back Charlie Goode – who is also reportedly on the radar of Championship sides QPR and Middlesbrough.
And Northampton boss Keith Curle has confirmed that the Cobblers have already turned down four bids from two second-tier clubs for Goode – and insists they are in no hurry to sell.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “If those clubs are serious about it, they'll pay what we think he's worth.
"If they don't, Charlie looks as fit as anything and he's ready to play for us this season."
Meanwhile, the FA have confirmed that FA Cup replays have been scrapped for the 2020/21 season to help avoid further fixture congestion.
Clubs are already set to play a considerable number of midweek games this season, and cup replays have now been forfeited .
It has also been confirmed that the first round of the FA Cup will take place on Saturday, November 7.
