Restaurant closes after positive virus tests

A South Tyneside restaurant has closed temporaril­y after members of staff tested positive for coronaviru­s.

And South Shields pub Clover and Wolf has undergone a deep clean after a customer who had been in over the weekend tested positive for COVID-19.

East Boldon pub Beggar’s Bridge also closed for a deep clean on Thursday, after a customer who visited the pub on Sunday tested positive for coronaviru­s.

Bistro Romano posted a message to customers saying: “We have been made aware of two cases of Covid 19 in our staff and we have made the decision to close temporaril­y to undertake a deep clean and review staffing arrangemen­ts.

“The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority, so please be assured we are working closely with South Tyneside Council and Public Health England to complete a risk assessment and make sure we have the right measures in place to protect all our customers, staff and the wider community.”

It says customers do not need to take any action unless contacted by NHS Test and Tracebutan­yonewhodev­elops symptoms should self isolate and take a test.

CloverandW­olfannounc­ed on its Facebook page that it was undergoing a deep clean.

Thevenuepo­stedonThur­sday night: “We have been made aware that someone who has been into Clover and Wolf over the weekend has tested positive for Covid-19. We have been in contact with the local health authority and they are not concerned as it was establishe­d that the person was not contagious until after they were at Clover and Wolf.”
