First class new home for Post Office branch

Customers are being advised that a Post Office is moving locations from next month.

The Town Centre Washington Post Office is moving to 43 The Galleries, Washington, from Thursday, October 1, opening at 1pm.

The current branch at nearby 37-38 The G all eries is scheduled to close on Wednesday, September 30, at 5.30pm.

Officials say the branch was due to relocate in March but the move was delayed due to the coronaviru­s pandemic.

The new premises is undergoing a refurbishm­ent to incorporat­e a convenienc­e store and Post Office.

It will feature 55 hours of Post Office service per week; a convenient and modern retail environmen­t; banking services; postage and collect; and a new Postmaster.

A Post Office spokespers­on said :“Town C entre Washington Post Office will be one of our main style branches.

"There will be four serving positions, which will be a mixture of three screened serving positions and a Post Office serving point provided for use at the retail counter and available during shop opening hours.”

After the move the opening hours will be Monday to Friday: 8.45am to 5.30pm; Saturday: 8.45am to 4.30pm; Sunday: 10am to 2pm.

Kenny Lamont, Post Office Regional Change Manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important theses ervices are to local residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”
