Wearside MPs are backing a charity which is supporting struggling families in times of need, by becoming patrons.

Sunderland’s three Members of Parliament, Julie Elliot, Sharon Hodgson and Bridget Phillipson, have given their backing to Love Amelia Baby Bank.

The charity, based in Hendon, takes donations of new and pre-owned baby items and gifts them to families across Sunderland and South Tyneside who need them the most.

The charity was launched by Steph Archbold alongside her partner Phil Capewell after their daughter Amelia, sadly passed away just minutes after being born in 2018.

Steph said :“We’ re delighted Sharon, Bridget and Julie have agreed to become patrons of the charity. Love, Amelia is going from strength to strength and it’s a huge endorsement of the work we are doing.”

Love Amelia Baby Bank aims to support children in the area who need help, give them the best possible and an opportunity to thrive.

Sharon Hodgson, MP for Washington and Sunderland West, said: “I'm delighted to be a patron of Love, Amelia who support families in need across Sunderland.

“Unfortunately, too many families need this kind of support from charities, but I am pleased that Steph and Phill have been able to create something positive following the tragic loss of their daughter, Amelia.

"I know that Love, Amelia will make a real difference to families across Sunderland.”

Earlier this year, Steph and Phil welcomed the birth of a healthy baby boy, Jack.
