Henderson and Thompson blast Whitburn into semis

In the Dukes ECB North East Premier League The Banks Salver Plaque quarter-finals, Whitburn piled on the runs at home to their rivals Philadelph­ia.

They scored 209-4, as openers James Thompson (72) and Lee Henderson (94no), put on 152 for the first wicket.

Philli started well in reply, with Sean Smith scoring 39, but they fell away to 147 all out.

Burnmoor comfortabl­y went through to the Banks Salver Cup semi-finals, with a win over Tynemouth, and will now face South Northumber­land in the semi-finals.

Only Ben Deb n am got runs for the visitors scoring 37, as Ross Green well claimed 4-18, in a total of 119 all out.

Greenwell with the bat then scored 37 not out, alongside Paul Craig who hammered 45 not out, in a winning Burnmoor total of 123-2.

Washington struggled and only made 98 against South North, with Sean Tindale the main culprit taking 3-17.

Simon Birtwisle (44no) and Michael Richardson (51no), put on 98 for the second wicket, ending on 100-1.

Chester-Le-Street played H et ton Lyons and restricted the visitors to 107- 9, with Jack Campbell, Quentin Hughes, Brodie Glendinnin­g and Liam Burgess, each taking two wickets.

They then comfortabl­y knocked off the required runs, scoring 111-2, as opener Jack Campbell scored 66 runs.

In the Banks Salver Plate quarter-finals, Sunderland had Micky Allen to thank again, for their win over Castle Eden.

The all-round er made 42 with the bat and took six wickets, to guide his side through to the semi-finals.

The visitors made 166-8, while the Ashbrooke team responded with 169-2.

Willington went down fighting at home to Ashington, as the visitors made a

healthy 243-5, thanks to 89 runs from Ben Harmison and 43 each from James Harm is on and Cameron Steel.

Opener Reece Carr responded with a brilliant century of 127 not out from 112 balls, which included five fours and seven sixes, but it was not enough as they came up short on 2292.

In Group B of the Durham Cricket League Frank Lees Cup, Brandon remain top following their win at Murton.

They totalled 189-9, thanks to Liam Reid who made 51 and Jamie Robinson 52, as they put on 92 runs for the sixth wicket.

In reply, the home side were all out for 140, as Gordon Muchall with 3-30 bowled well taking out three of the top five batsmen.

Esh Winning are second after an important five wicket win at Littletown.

The home side had David Craig to thank (50) and Matthew Fishburn (30), to get them up to 119 all out, with Ishan Ul Haq claiming 4-19 and Billy Storey 4-26.

They then had Shahid Khan to thank as he made 40 not out, to guide his side to victory on 123-5, despite David Craig taking 3-30.

Easington kept up their outside chances of reach

ing the latter stages of the Frank Lees trophy when on Saturday they hammered Hunwick by 193 runs their biggest victory in any competitio­n for many years.

Knowing that they have to win their final two games in the group and the possibilit­y of it coming down to run rate in the event of two or more clubs with the same number of points at the end of the group stages, they decided to bat first and from their 40 overs scored 269 for the loss of only three wickets.

Skipper Jason Moses and Jonathan Davis opened the innings and the pair batted superbly together adding 143 runs for the first

wicket before Davis fell for 57 which included seven boundaries and one six.

A further 34 runs was added when Dave Ta rn joined Moses but Tarn fell next for 15.

Big hitter Omar Shahid joined his captain at the crease and the pair added 70 runs together only for Moses to go next 14 runs short of reaching three figures going for a superb knock of 86.

At the end of the 40 th over Shahid was unbeaten on 54 which saw him hit three towering six es and three boundaries thus helping Easington close their innings on 269 for 3.

The target for Hunwick was way out of their reach

however the all-round Easington bowling attack was in great form with Shahid taking the honours with 4 for 11 in a seven-over spell of quick and accurate bowling.

Fazil Hussain and Fusil both chipped in with two wickets apiece to help Easington dismiss Hunwick for 76 with the winning margin 193 runs.

Easington’s final fixture is at home to Evenwood next Saturday however they are relying on one or two upsets from the clubs above them if they are to stand a chance of progressin­g in the competitio­n.

Durham City hosted Tudhoe at Green Lane and won easily by 10 wickets.

They bowled the visitors out for just 86, as Dom Scott and Adam May each took four wickets, with just Gavin Paton resisting with 32 runs.

Opener Jack Spalding made 31, but Josh Clifford claimed figures of 5-20 and Bryan Potts 3-20.

The home side then made 95-4 to win the game, with Bryan Potts top scoring with 26 not out.
