Man due in court for causing death by dangerous driving:
A man is due to appear in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal New Year’s Eve crash which claimed the life of a much-loved Sunderland man.
Michael Giblin, 32, from Hendon, was seriously hurt in the crash at 8.15pm on Tuesday, December 31, last year, when police were called to Durham Road in Sunderland, following a report of a two-vehicle collision.
Scores of tributes were paid to Michael after his death on Friday, January 10.
The crash happened at the junction of the A690 Durham Road and Premier Road, which is known locally as Prospect Junction and is close to the Lidl store.
Two other occupants – a man and a woman – were also taken to hospital where they received treatment for serious injuries.
An investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision and a 22-year-old man is due to appear in court later this year charged with a string of offences.
Lewis Urban, of Hill View Square, Sunderland, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside on Tuesday, No - vember 24.

"Our thoughts remain with his family at this difficult time and we will continue to offer them any support they need.
