Swim school to make a splash on return

-

A swim school is aiming to make waves after reopening with plans to help the region get fit and healthy.

Sunderland-based swim school “in at the deep end” is offering post-lockdown exercise with swimming for fitness, weight loss, mental health, and more.

The award-winning school runs classes and courses for all ages and abilities at Castle View Community and Fitness Centre and Thornhill Academy.

“In at the Deep End” co-founder Mark McNichol, from South Tyneside, said: “Swimming is fundamentally a life skill – it can save your life if you fall into water, but it’s much more than that.

"Swimming can help people lose weight and keep fit, it can build confidence and give people the chance to bond together in adult and child classes, and for those with physical or sensory conditions, it can provide therapy and relief due to the buoyancy and support.

“Swimming is a brilliant low impact exercise that works all your muscles, helps with stress relief and breathing, and can be a fun group or solo activity.” Mark, who co-runs the school with experienced instructor Kim Cain, added: “We aim to provide low cost affordable swimming for every age and ability.

"We have never ever turned anybody away due to need or ability. We can do the full range of classes from groups to private tuition as well as the fun activities too.”

The swim school reopened at Thornhill on September 7, with classes at Castle View Community and Fitness Centre scheduled to resume later this month.
