Cole urges Silksworth to build on first league win
S i l k s wo r th C W m a n a ge r Jamie Cole has challenged his side to build momentum after belatedly getting their season underway with a win against Coxhoe Athletic.
New signing Josh Winthrop marked his competitive debut with a brace and Brandon Alderson was also on target as Cole’s side impressed in their first game of the campaign.
Their attention quickly turns to a tough-looking trip to Gateshead Leam Rangers this weekend and Cole wants his players to build on their display in the midweek win.
He told The Echo: “Coxhoe were hard to break down and Adam Cullen was there main threat – but realistically they didn’t look like scoring.
“We have Josh Winthrop and Harry Munday is now back at the club, so we always looked dangerous.
“I hope we can take the momentum into Saturday at Leam Rangers because it will be a tough test.
“A lot has gone on at the
club over pre-season, we have Andy Stobbart in the dugout alongside me now and we just want to build on the momentum to take us forwards.”
Cole has a full squad available for the trip to Tyneside.
Washington United assistant manager Kallum Warne has revealed that confidence is high ahead of their trip to Horden CW.
The Wearside League newboys are heading into the game looking for their first win of the season after taking one point from their opening two fixtures.
They will be without keeper Mitchell Simons as he continues his long recovery from the serious leg injury he suffered against Coxhoe.
Ahead of the game, Warne
insisted that United squad are “ready to go” against a side that looked set to claim promotion into the Northern League last season.
He said: “We have started well in both games in the league so far, which gives us confidence that we can mix it with anyone on our day. The lads had two good sessions again this week and we are ready to go against Horden.
“Weknowthatfirstwinwill come sooner rather than later if we keep performance and add those few extra touches thatwehavebeenworkingon.”
Elsewhere on Saturday, leaders Boldon CA without ex-South Shields forward Stephen Ramsey for their visit to Annfield Plain as he recovers from a fractured leg.
