Fisk fires a brace as Park kick off with 5-1 victory

In the Sunderland Sunday L ea g ue Pre m ie r D iv i s io n Grange Park got underway with a 5-1 win at Port of Call.

Park ran out winners after goals from debutant Paul Kane, Tansey, Dobinson and a couple from Shaun Fisk and John Bewick scored the only goal for Port of Call

The Lansdowne sought revenge on Hylton Castle after last season’s heavy defeat and returned the favour with a great 5-0 win.

Alderson, Munday, Smith, Noble and starmanKyl­eYoung found the net to claim the win.

Stella Dons and Washington Sky Lounge drew 0-0.

Pennywell Comrades secured a valuable point from a 1-1 draw against Grangetown Florists.

Winthrop had Pennywell leading but a Thompson effort for the Florists drew the score level.

In the First Division a fine Aiden King goal earned a tight win for Thorney Close over newcomers Cheers LWH Décor FC to get their league campaign underway.

Lewis Herron was once again Herrington’s star man and his 2 goals set his side up for a hard fought win over Washington FC.

Washington hit back with strikes from Stephenson (2) and Robinson but Herrington had the win in their sites when Dobinson and McCullough scored.

South Hylton got the start the needed in order to be crowned league winners, after being touted favourites to lift the trophy next May they come out on top in a hardfought game over Ryhope CW, Cameron Old hit the only goal of the game.

Surprise package The Avenue are set to get tongues wagging after they accepted the challenge to compete in division 1 and passed with flying colours in their first test against Ryhope FC. A double from Ashworth then Carr, Coates and Cliff saw them head to the top of the table.

It could be another tough season for Wearmouth as they face life in in a very com

petitive first division and there first test was against a strong Jolly Potters side who ran out 4-0 winners.

Dixon, Spence, Markham and Hollern all scored past Donaldson and special mention goes to Wearmouth’s Terry Crombie who at 63 years old donned his boots to help his team out and his son Patrick.

In the Second Division The Stella won 7-1 against Oddies FC.

The home team found the net with ease courtesy of four from Jon Snelling, Binks and finished off with a brace from Gav Teasdale. Oddies found the net from a Stewart effort.

Last season’s top two from the third division went head to head and it was Washington New Tavern who ended up comfortabl­e winners, McIntyre scored twice to get the Tav underway and it was Corrigan and Mason adding goals.

Hot shot Stan Ogunsuyi was on hand to grab his usual goal for Houghton.

New boys Townsend FC look to put their stamp on the second division after a thump

ing 9-3 win over the old heads of Myers FC.

Harrison Smith, McNulty and Andy Smith scored their usual efforts for Myers but the spritely Townend side were too good. Stephenson, Rayne, Moon 3, Jake Bell, Corey Bell 2 and a goal from star man Jake Baker rounded off the scoring.

The Board Inn need to thank their excellent goal keeper Stephen Fortune for keeping the goal to only 10 as they faced title favourites Hendon FC.

The hosts took an early shock lead with a well-placed free kick from Ian Coverdale but it was short lived as Sebastian Lax fired home from close range to equalise.

It was then Hendon who dominated the remaining 80 mins of the game and found the net with ease.

The youthful Imeson and Galdi finished well, doubles from Knight and Bewick then a fine hattrick on his Hendon debut from Alan Golightly.

A double from stalwart Lee Melia earned the Carpetmen their first point of the season as Lakeside SSC looked to take all three points, after Murton and Crossland scored in each half but the evergreen Melia had other plans.

Wear United got off to a winning start in the league after edging Hall Farm Doxy Lad in this seven goal thriller.

It finished 4-3 to United as Armstrong scored twice, Foster and Taylor also netted to seal the win.

The Hall Farm side hit back with goals from Bradford, McGough and Dean Smith.

In the Third Division The Doxy Lad ran riot against Millview CIU and Ashton Burlace was to thank for his four goal haul to down Millview.

Dan Fox and Brett Chapman added to Burlaces goals to give Doxy the win.

Millview managed to scant consolatio­n through David Laing.

An early Shaun Barras goal for the Grange wasn’t enough to take anything from the

game as River Bar soon took control and proceeded to hit five unanswered goals. Rowntree, Foston, Carter, Sinclair and Helens found the net to take the points.

Washington Gardeners suffered a heavy defeat and their forward Conner Stoddart didn’t help matters as he saw red during the game.

Stella United hit double figures as Cains hit 2, along with Charlie Hood 2, Tommy Wood 2, Robinson 2, Howe, Mitchinson and Harry Atkins

Three late goals secured a win for Sunderland North after The Broadway took a surprising lead through a Jordan Gregory goal, but the away team overcome their early set back and had Gray, Ayre and Huston fire past Philip Perry for the win.

It was a simple outing for Washington­NorthEndas­they hammered The Victory Club 8-0 to start their campaign in the third division.

Adams, Francis, Harris, Scott and braces from Mitchinson and Mitchell put the visitors to the sword.
