Hill hits a hat-trick as Town see off Park View

In the Fourth Division, Birtley Town enjoyed their opening game in the Sunderland league with a close 5-3 win over league stalwarts Park View.

Birtley had Dan Hill score a hat-trick and Cuthbertso­n hit two to see them on their way to victory but then Park View rallied back with Dixon, Robson and Conley goals.

A Daniel Dobson treble ensured the points for Doxford Athletic and helped them to a 5-3 win over Philadelph­ia Castle FC.

The away team replied through goals from McCann 2 and McClintock but a double from Teasdale finished the game off for Doxford

Whitburn SC have welcomed their first point of the season and are hoping to better last seasons points tally, they earned it with a 2-2 draw against new boys Albion FC.

Whitburn had Bays and Brook score and the Albion earned the draw after Cushlow and Mitchell fired home.

Belmont United have been touted as probably league winners and they started with a devastatin­g 11-1 over Washington Blue Bell.

Crawford (2), Cook (3), Perry (4), Hellens and Mutimer scored to give Belmont their emphatic victory while Dunbar replied for well-beaten Blue Bell.

A great hat-trick from Matty Frost helped give Downhill Free Gardeners the start they needed to their league adventure, Anth Yates come off the bench to hit his goal to put the game to bed.

Last Orders were in the game with strikes from Laybourne, Parkes and Brown but to home side held on.
