Horden CW assistant manager Lee Bogan paid tribute to Annfield Plain after his side hit double figures against the Derwent Park outfit on Saturday.

H o rd e n we nt i nto th e game looking to move on from their midweek defeat against Boldon – and they did that in the grand manner as they romped to a 16-0 win.

However, that only tells half of the story as Annfield started the game with just ten men, before being taken to their full compliment of players inside the opening ten minutes.

But they were ruthlessly taken apart by Horden as they raced into a six-goal lead by the time the half-time whistle had been blown.

John Bowes and Andrew Lonsdale got the scoring underway in the opening-stages and Joe Bell and David Doughty both scored twice ahead of the interval.

There was no let-up in the second-half as Doughty went on to complete a five

goal haul and Bell secured a hat-trick.

C a l l u m H o d ge, Pe t e r Crawford, Myles Hubbard and Marc Moon were also on target as Horden eased to all three points.

Bogan praised his side for a professional performance – but urged their opponents to keep going during a tough time for the club.

He told The Echo: “We we re ve r y h ap py, but we knew they were short of players and they started with ten men.

“They got to eleven after five or ten minutes, but we told the lads to be professional and to do the job that needed to be done.

“We needed to pick ourselves up after Wednesday and the defeat at Boldon – and we did that very well.

“We were just clinical, every chance we had we took, and it could have been a lot worse.

“I spoke to the Annfield Plain lads because they went all the way through, they battled, and they gave it their all.

“It’s quite sad, it’s a great club, it’s a club with massive history and I would encourage them to keep going.

“Hopefully they can do that.”

D u rh a m Un i t e d w e re beaten for the first time this season after they were hit for six by Richmond Town.

Eddie Lewington, George Battersby, Michael Gunnell and Ben Darville were all amongst the scorers.
