Family’s appeal for the return of stolen golf clubs

A mum has spoken of her devastation after golf clubs belonging to her late husband were stolen from her son’s car in a Sunderland street.

The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday, September 13 outside an address in Park Place West in the Hendon area.

Anita Economides’ oldest son Cameron was staying at his friend’s house after they had been out to a driving range on Saturday.

The golf clubs have sentimental value to the family, as they belonged to late husband and father, Chris E co no mid es, who passed away suddenly in June 2018 after a heart attack.

Anita told the Echo that they are doing everything they can to try and get the clubs back.

The mum-of-three said: “Cameron has recently taken up golf and he asked if he could take Chris’ special set of clubs that he only used for tournaments to the driving range.

"He bought them not long before he died so the sentimental value is priceless and I was reluctant at first for Cameron to take them but as he has been getting quite good at golf, I let him use them.

"Cameron is obviously devastated by what’s happened, we all are.”

Along with the golf clubs, thieves also took Cameron’s football gear and his Warhammer game collection.

Anita’s Facebook post appealing for information relating to the crime has been shared over 900 times, with kind-hearted strangers offering their sympathies.

The 50-year-old added: “We’ve had so many people get in touch, there has even been offers from the public to replace the golf clubs for free.

"We’re constantly checking selling pages, Ebay and Gumtree to see if anyone is trying to sell them, I’m hoping that they become too hot to handle and are returned to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police via 101, quoting log 261 130920.
