Cats will get red carpet at the Kassam, says U’s boss

-

Oxford United will not look to gain an advantage from the coronavirus restrictions when teams visit the Kassam Stadium, according to Karl Robinson.

The U’s head coach was i rke d wh e n h i s s qu ad a r - r ive d at L i n c o l n C i ty l a s t weekend to find they did not have a working sink in their changing room.

The away dressing room at S i n c i l B a n k h a d b e e n moved to temporary facilit i e s to i m p rove th e s o c i a l distancing between the two clubs.

Robinson stopped short of saying it had been a deliberate tactic, but stressed visitors to the Kassam Stadium would get the red carpet treatment when it came to facilities.

Sunderland travel to the Kassam this afternoon.

He told the Oxford Mail: "We believe that everything should be right, so they will get the best dressing rooms they possibly can, showers, running water, hand sanitiser, everything will be as best as we can possibly make it for the opposition.

"How other teams do it is down to them.

"It’s how you want to conduct yourselves as a club really."

United lost the game 2-0, but striker James Henry felt it would be "weak" to suggest the pre-match disruption was a factor in the result.

“We’re not using any of that as an excuse,” he said.

"That would be weak of us, there will be a lot of that going to every ground.

“Luckily for away teams coming to our place they will have a lovely big changing room.

“Not everyone has those facilities, we’re not blaming anything on that."
