-

A Year 7 pupil at Seaham High School has tested positive for COVID-19, the headteacher has confirmed.

The school, in Station Road, confirmed yesterday a Year 7 pupil has tested positive for coronavirus and the school is in the process of identifying members of the school community who will need to selfisolate.

Seaham High School, which has contacted Public Health England, says the ‘bubble system’ means the number of people affected are ‘relatively low’.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Geoff Lumsdon said: “We have received notification that one of our students in Year 7 has tested positive for COVID-19.

"We are in the process of working with Public Health England to identify those members of our school community who will need to self isolate.

"The parents of any students affected are being contacted directly. Due to our Bubble system the numbers affected are relatively low."

The school has reminded parents that if a pupil begins showing symptoms of C OVID -19 that they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date their symptoms appeared. An further update on the school’s website reads: “The small number of children who have been in direct prolonged contact with the confirmed case will have received an individual letter and will be staying at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend if they remain well."
