Metro passengers’ views needed on new trains

-

Metro users in Sunderland are being invited to help to shape the design of the system’s new trains.

Nexus, the public body which owns and manages the Tyne and Wear Metro, is running a series of interactive online events after revealing the new livery for the £362m fleet earlier this month.

The modern and eyecatching yellow paint job – with black and pale grey – was decided on following input from passengers and employees.

A public consultation on interior details of the new trains has attracted a record 10,000 responses in just two weeks – and the opportunity to get involved continue with a live and interactive YouTube webinar

As part of the Metro Futures programme, Nexus have worked with Newcastle University to create a website and a series of online events that will allow passengers to explore a virtual model of the train.

A virtual consultation event takes place on Tuesday October 6 at 6pm at https://www. you tube. com/ watch?v=Ydmc5zmym1M

People can explore and comment on the new Metro train interiors at https:// metrofutures.org.uk/configure any time until October 9.

Nexus customer services director, Huw Lewis, said: “This is a hugely exciting time for Metro. The new colour scheme was extremely well received, and we’re keen for passengers to continue to give their views, this time on the interior features.

The 46 new Metro trains for Nexus are due to be delivered up to 2024 and Nexus say they will be 15 times more reliable than the current ageing fleet and have modern features including charging points and air conditioning.
