Teacher training on gaming and gambling

-

The Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) is leading a training programme to safeguard young people in the North East from gaming and gambling-related harm.

The national charity is being supported by Sunderlandbased teacher recruitment agency AK Teaching.

As well as services in relation to gambling, more help is available for those identified as having an addiction to gaming as “gaming disorder” has been recognised a medical condition within the last couple of years.

As part of a national education programme, free assured workshops and resources are being provided to anyone who works with or cares for young people. Through the new partnership, YGAM will focus on delivering training to schools and teachers in the North East before advancing the programme even further.

North East schools, teachers, parents or anyone else working with young people who are interested in learning more about gaming and gambling and young people are encouraged to contact Claire Patel, YGAM’s education manager for the North East, to take advantage of the training and resources available.

She can be contacted via email at clairepatel@ygam.org or by calling 07377 737296.

Claire said: “I’m thrilled that AK Teaching and YGAM have set up a training partnership with the aim to train all AK Teaching staff on the potential harms of gaming and gambling. This training is so important for the digital world children are now growing up in.

“All those who will be trained will have access to YGAM’s full range of educational resources and materials – suitable from Key Stages 2 to 5.”
