Catholic Club hit Colliery for four to lead the way

Only seven league matches took place last weekend in the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday League due to several clubs being involved in the extra qualifying round of the Durham County Sunday Cup.

In the Premier Division Peterlee Catholic Club make the early running after goals from Oliver Hotchkiss, Gary Shaw, Jack Pounder and Kyle Middleton saw them take their points tally to nine following a 4-1 win against Murton Colliery FC. Colliery’s consolatio­n goal came courtesy of Josh Greenfield.

Shotton Comrades won their first game of the new campaign also winning 4-1 against Easington Colliery Club Mechanics with goals from Luke Pearn, Nathan Grain ge rand substitute­s Gary Pennington and Jamie Bennett. Ryan Douglas netted in reply for the Mechanics Club.

The other game played in the division saw Easington CIU enjoy a comfortabl­e 5-0 win over South Hetton Cricket Club. There were two goals apiece for Liam Adamson and Jamie Watson while Simon Todd also got his name on the scoresheet.

In Division One, four goals from Daniel Armstrong paved the way for Seaham Marlboroug­h to hammer Thornley Harrys Bar 9-2. Their other goals came from Ben Lawson, Robbie Sinclair, Dan Mottram, Joe Jones and Lewis Wilkinson. Jack Ward and Craig Deighton replied for Harrys Bar.

Another side to enjoy an easy win was Win gate Howden who beat Seaham the Knack 7-2 with a hat trick from Liam Owen, a brace from Thomas Young along with further efforts from Harry Winwood and Jake Devine.
