Silks worth CW manager Jamie Cole has challenged his players to build on their positive start to the Wearside League season.

AJosh Winthrop brace and a goal apiece from Jonathan Bainbridge and Harry Munday helped Cole’s side secure a 3-0 home win against Washington United.

That result means Silksworth have taken nine points from a possible 12 so far this season in a run of form that has taken them into the top ten of the Wearside League table.

They currently sit just four points shy of a place in the top four – but hold as many as three games in hand over the teams above them in the table. Cole has urged his squad to continue their impressive form as they prepare to face in-form Norton and Stockton Ancients and Boldon CA over the next week.

He said: “It was a hard game for us on Saturday, and the conditions are probably the worst I have ever seen. Washington were a well organised side, they had their spells, but our quality shone through.

“It’s been a good start to the season, and we shouldn’t forget there is a lot of new faces in the squad. I am over the moon with how things are going, and everything is working for us.

“The lads are buying into what we want and we the lads we have brought in have added real quality to the squad. “We want to finish as high as we can in this league, and we have something to build on after a good start.”

A hat-trick from Nathan Mohun and a Rhys Greenwood goal laid the foundations for Norton and Stockton Ancients’ impressive 4-1 win at FC Hartlepool.

Lewis Cow an had cancelled out an early goal from Mohun, but Terry Hill’s side were well beaten at Grayfields.

Scott Guy and Luke McCormack both scored twice as Richmond Town moved into the top four with a 5-2 home win against Windscale.

Farringdon Detached won a seven-goal thriller against Durham United in the Durham Trophy.

Steven Telford, Matty Pennal and Kieron Day scored for the hosts – but their hopes of a run were ended as a hat-trick from Jordan Southern and a stunning free-kick from Liam Laidler from Billy Wyatt gave the visitors a 4-3 win at New Ferens Park.

Gateshead Leam Rangers’ Aidan Rutledge and Jordan Bolton netted in a 2-0 win at West Auckland Tunns.
