Uni confirms further 41 cases of COVID-19
The University of Sunderl a n d h a s revea l e d th at a f u rth e r 3 9 s tud e nt s a n d two members of staff have tested positive for the virus, with the total number of cases now standing at 85.
The University of Sunderland has seen another 41 cases since Monday, September 28 – with both students and staff testing positive for COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases to 85.
Last week, it was confirmed that 40 students and four members of staff had tested positive and as of Tuesday, 79 students and six members of staff have the illness.
It has also been revealed that rules on coronavirus and social distancing will be included in the university’s policy on student conduct, something which all students have to abide by while studying.
A spokesperson for the
University of Sunderland said: “The most recently shared figures for positive cases of COVID-19 at the University of Sunderland are 79 students and six staff.
“Social distancing and coronavirus would be included in our overarching policy on student conduct.” The university stressed last week that it remains confident in its procedures to protect the health and wellbeing of both itsstudentsandstaff. A University of Sunderland spokesperson added: "University staff are in contact with the city council and health officials and continue to follow agreed procedures and guidance."
"These include physical changes to our campus facilities, protocols around social distancing and hand-washing, an enhanced cleaning regime, and changes to our teaching model."
