New Sunderland signing Callum McFadzean is hoping to make it a hat-trick of promotions this season.

An attacking left full back, McFadzean – who has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season – has won promotion from League Two in each of the last two seasons.

The first came with Bury and the second with Plymouth Argyle, both of whom were managed by Ryan Lowe.

Phil Parkinson had been looking for cover and competition at left wing-back to challenge Denver Hume and it will likely be the end of the club’s transfer business until January.

McFadzean said: “I am delighted to be here, as soon as I knew Sunderland were interested I was desperate to get it done.

“In the summer I knew there was some interest, and I’ve had quite a bit of interest in the last week and as soon as we were doing the medical, it all happened really quickly.

“The last few seasons I have had two promotions,” he told the club website.

"I am a team player, coming into that group of lads, bringing experience in and winning games, that mentality is what I will bring.

“I said to myself, it would be a great achievement [achieving another promotion] for myself and the boys, this is a massive club and deserves to be up there. That is what I want to achieve.

“I am ready to go. I have some topping up to do but will do everything possible to be out there as quickly as possible.”

Asked what fans can expect from him, McFadzean added: “100% they can expect, I will give it everything and I like to chip in with goals and assists.

"They will see me up and down that flank.

“I have been doing everything possible to keep ticking over to make sure I was ready to go.

“I am raring to go now and I can’t wait."

The Black Cats had been searching for reinforcement sin this position all summer, after Declan John’s loan from Swansea City expired.

A raft of defensive injuriesh ad complicated matters, with the Black Cats needing to reinforce their options at the centre of defence with Dion Sanderson also arriving on loan from Wolves.
