Silks worth CW manager Jamie Cole will not take anything for granted ahead of their visit to bottom of the table Coxhoe Athletic.

The Beechfield Park outfit are still looking for their first win of the season losing all but one of their opening nine games of the campaign.

Cole’s side will travel in a positive frame of mind after they gave Northern League club Ryhope CW a severe test before falling to a 2-0 defeat in a Durham Challenge Cup tie in midweek.

But Cole warned his players that they can’t just expect to claim a fifth league win of the season on Saturday.

He said: “We can’t judge anyone in our league, and I have always said that, and I will say it again to the lads on Saturday.

“We are confident after holding our own against Ryhope CW – although we are a bit frustrated that we couldn’t put the ball in the net.

“I think we got under their skin a bit and the lads can take heart from that.

“We weren’t happy to lose, but we were happy with the performance, so we now look to take that into this weekend.

“If we want to do well this season, we have to beat teams like Coxhoe and hopefully, that is what we will do.”

Cole confirmed that he will be without injured quartet Harry Munday, Harry Graham, Tom Hunter and Dan Martin for the game.

Washington United manager Cameron Thompson has revealed that confidence in high in his squad as they look to stretch their unbeaten run to four games this weekend.

The Wearside League newboys experienced a challenging start to the season – but a draw against Richmond Town and wins against Gateshead Leam Rangers and Coxhoe Athletic indicate that they’re now accustomed to life in Division One.

A return meeting with Leam Rangers offers them an opportunity to move into the top half of the table and Thompson believes that he is benefitting from the positive attitude of his players.

He said: “The lads are in massively high spirits and are desperate to keep the unbeaten run going.

“There’s a real can-do attitude coming into the squad and their mentality is getting better and better.”

United go into the game without Steven Dawson, Harvey Cronin and Mitch Simons, but otherwise are at full strength.
