Pond sunk by four goals from visitors Bede Lodge

-

Willow Pond suffered a home defeat to Bede Lodge in the Sunderland & District Over 40s League.

Durham Bede Lodge had some early chances but the home side went ahead after a surging run and cross by full back Stuart Mckie was deflected into the goal by Jason Manners.

Bede replied soon after when Lee Pratt swivelled and volleyed home from inside the 18-yard box from a Kevin Hepburn pass.

Bede then went 2-1 ahead after a skewed clearance from Pond centre half Andy Norman bounced into the goal off McKie, which was helped over the line by Neil Emsley.

In the second half, Bede pressure told and they stretched their lead, getting a third from Gavin Richardson when he unleashed a screamer from outside the box through a crowd of players to beat Pond keeper John Davis.

Another Bede counter attack produced a fourth goal from Mick Williams. After his build-up play on the ring wing, he recollected the ball in the six-yard box to slot home low at the near post past Davis.

Pond substitute Anthony Lock showed great pace after a defence splitting pass from David Kelly, but his effort was disallowed for offside. Pond produced a fine move through midfield, started by substitute Jason Snowdon, Lock and David Laws combined to set up Norman, who hit home under Bede keeper Andrew Neil to reduce the deficit.

In the dying minutes Pratt for Bede hit the bar again, but the points were safe and Bede moved above Pond into 11th after their first win of the season. Pond dropped to 10th after a third defeat in row.
