Grainger completes hat-trick to lead Comrades into next round

Shotton Comrades knocked Sunderland Hendon out of the second qualifying round of the Durham County Sunday Cup.

Shotton won 7-4 thanks to a brilliant hat-trick from Nathan Grainger, a brace from Jamie Bennett and goals from Lancelot Brightwell and Jack Hart.

Goals from Robbie Sinclair and Daniel Armstrong inspired Seaham Marlboroug­h to a 2-1 win over Hall Farm Doxy Lad.

Peterlee Acre Social Club beat Butchers Arms, from Chester-le-Street, 3-2 in a five goal thriller with a brace from sub Michael Reay along with a strike from Alan Smith.

The fourth club to make it into the next round was Horden United when two goals from Jared Jones plus efforts from Mark Daley and Brandon Leigh saw them defeat Sunderland North 4-2.

South Hetton Cricket Club were level at 5-5 after 90 minutes against Washington Deaf Club but lost on penalties 5-4.

Netting for the Cricket Club were Liam Houghton, Jack Moore, Brandon Cook, Aaron Wood and sub Alan Curl.

Goals from Michael Bayles, Adam Benton and Aid en Merry were not enough for Thornley Harrys Bar as they lost 8-3 to Washington New Tavern.

Nicholas Davies struck for Horden Labour Club but they went down 4-1 to Hebburn Legion and goals from Ethan Jones and Michael Lee were not enough for Easington Southside when they lost 3-2 to Eaglesclif­fe the Dubliners.

EasingtonC­ollieryClu­bMechanics were edged out 2-1 by Craghead New Punch Bowl.

In the SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday League Premier Division, the two clubs likely to battle it out for the title both won by the same scoreline.

Peterlee Catholic Club beat Easington Lane WMC 6-1 with a brace from Gary Shaw along with goals from Jack Pounder,

Scott Thompson, Tom Goundry and Conner Walker. Jake Bowman replied for Lane.

Dawdon Welfare Park also won 6-1, beating Murton Colliery FC with a Robbie Bird hattrick and strikes from Denver Morris, Tom Price and Callum Munro. Liam Appleby netted in reply.

In the First Division, an early clash between promotion rivals Horden JD’s Bar

and Easington Leather Cap proved to be a cracker. It was Horden who won 6-5 thanks to a Joe Bell hat-trick and goals from Peter Crawford, Kieran Gething and Kyle Johns. Cap responded with Jack Maskell’s hat-trick and a Jordan Williams brace.

In the other game played in the First Division, two goals from Daniel Simpson were not enough for Seaham Parkside when they lost 5-2 in their derby against Seaham the Knack, who replied with two goals apiece from Michael Charlton and Brad Green plus a strike from substitute Martin Trow.

Easington Welfare went down to a 9-1 hammering against Horden Legion with two goals apiece from Ethan Maddison and Calvin Fahey. Andrew Daley was on target twice for Haswell Oddfellows who edged East Durham FSS 2-1 with Chris Black netting for East Durham.

Hetton Lyons FC had little trouble when they defeated Easington Victory 4-0.
