No laughing matter for us

-

I was always led to believe the first job of government was to protect its citizens.

Well citizens are not even a thought never mind a priority with this government. The chancellor Rishi Sunak has said, we have to strike a balance between people and the economy, I'm just glad he wasn't in the trenches during the war, trying to save money he would have sent the troops over the top without any guns, while himself and Johnson hid out in a fridge.

Just to get some perspective here, Britain has the highest Covid 19 death toll, the highest non Covid death toll, also the biggest economic and educational hits in Europe. All lockdowns and 83% of hospital Covid deaths have occurred in the North of England and the Midlands that gave Boris Johnson and his government an 80 seat majority, can anyone else see

a pattern here. Its also the measure of how stupid this government thinks we are 10 days after awarding Marcus Rashford an MBE for his work in ensuring children will be fed during the school holidays, Boris Johnson has done another U Turn and reneged on his promise to finance all free school meals to all children during the holidays. He ordered every Tory MP to vote to end all free school meals, even the minister for children Jo Gideon voted not to feed them. These heartless Tory MPs have been lining up to criticise parents up here in the North for "encouraging state dependency" Can someone explain to me why feeding hungry children is encouraging state dependency, yet subsidising corporations, furloughing middle class wages, and letting MPs claim expenses for everything from first class travel to triple layered bog rolls, is that not encouraging state dependency?

Why are working class children the first to be

sacrificed. I'm old enough to remember Thatcher stopping free school milk for children back in the 70s. Hopefully people who have been conned again will remember this the next time an election comes around. There’s an old saying, A Tory is like a leopard it never changes it's spots, but this current lot are more like laughing Hyenas. Ged Taylor, Barnes via email
