‘I couldn't ask any more of my team’, admits Warnock

Neil Warnock said he couldn’t ask any more of his Middlesbrough players after a goalless draw at Brentford.

B or oh ave now gone ten games unbeaten in the Championship and are seventh in the division after 11 games.

Warnock didn’t have many options to choose from at the new Brentford Community Stadium and only named six substitutes as midfielder George Saville missed out for family reasons.

“I couldn't ask any more really, they gave me everything,” said Warnock after the match.

”We finished strong as well, I thought we were the side going to win it.”

Middlesbrough didn’t create many goal-scoring opportunities but did squander a golden chance when striker Chuba Akpom fired an effort over the bar from inside the area.

“You come to places like this, you have to be happy you' ve kept their forward line to few chances and still created,” Warnock added.

"Chuba's was the best chance of the game.

"He did well to turn him, but he just couldn't keep it down.

"There were a couple of crosses at the end for Britt (Assombalonga).

“Ricochets always seem to go to them, as they did the other night.

"We just need a bit of luck and a bit of quality but that's what we've got, we only had six subs today."

Following Tuesday’s draw at Blackburn, Warnock admitted he could have brought playmaker Patrick Roberts off the bench to provide more of an attacking threat.

When asked if he conside red bringing Roberts on against Brentford, Warnock replied: "No I didn’t. They were too good in midfield, too strong and physical and athletic.

“I thought it’s not going to be my decision that costs the lads a point they’ve worked so hard for.”

Midfielder Sam Morsy was also absent from the matchday squad for the second consecutive match with a hamstring issue, yet Warnock said the injury isn’t serious.

"It’s only a hamstring, he just nicked it. He will probably be training again this week,” said Warnock when asked about Morsy.

“Grant Hall is back training now full time and we’ll ease him in next week.”
