Work set to start on hundreds of new homes
Construction work is due to begin on two new housing estates in Sunderland after the plans were given the approval of company bosses.
Work will start at Churchfields development in Doxford Park, and at its Chester Gate development, off the A183 Chester Road in the city, after the board of Gentoo Homes approved the schemes.
Construction on the projects was temporarily delayed due to the impact of coronavirus restrictions.
Now the firm has been given the go-ahead to progress with the new homes.
The HBF five-star rated housebuilder yesterday announced that it plans to launch the development for sale before Christmas this year, with groundworks works already commenced.
Vital highway improvement works to the A183 Chester Road have recently been completed by Sunderland City Council, allowing for construction work to begin on the first phase of 118 new homes.
These will include two, three and four-bedroom properties.
The Churchfields development will mark the final 100 new homes of the ongoing regeneration project in the area.
Anthony Douglas, managing director at Gentoo Homes, said: “We’re excited that construction work can now safely resume on two of our biggest developments in Sunderland.
“These are two extremely important sites and we are pleased that we have received a lot of interest in both schemes.
"While it was disappointing to temporarily put construction work on hold, we can now look forward to bringing these new homes to the market in 2021.”
