Your chance to win a delivery of burgers during the lockdown

- Katy Wheeler Katy.Wheeler@jpimedia.co.uk @KatyJourno

With Lockdown 2 meaning pubs, non-essential shops and venues are closed for a month, one of the few pleasures in life we can still enjoy is having restaurant-quality food delivered to our door.

No2 Church Lane proved successful in the first lockdown with deliveries of their meat-based, as well as vegan, burger options and it means now we’re in Lockdown 2, it’s a well-honed delivery service able to still provide Sunderland with its burger fix.

There’s a new chef at the helm of the restaurant in the city’s Culture Quarter, Richard Owens, who’s put a firm focus on making everything from scratch, down to the sauces, and making the vegan options just as satisfying as their meatier counterparts.

He’s building on the restaurant’s established reputation with an imaginativemenuwith burgers topped with all manner of treats, such as the Pizza Burger.

Not for the faint-hearted, or the waistline watchers, these two, 3oz beef patties are covered in a pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni.

Or, from the vegan options, there’s the Jack Crackle & No Pork, which comes as pulled jack fruit and croutons, served with apple sauce. As the names would suggest, this is food with personality.

We ordered on a Saturday night just before the second lockdown with the driver arriving bang on the delivery time. I went with an oldie, but a goodie: the Churchy OG.

Their most popular burger, it’s a simpler dish than the more colourful options, but it still packs a big flavour punch.

It consisted of two perfectly-tender beef patties with just the right amount of juice, topped with streaky bacon, melted cheddar cheese (none of your rubbery cheese here) and confit onion, served with house sauce. Despite having been in transit, it looked just as good as I’ve had in the restaurant.

All burgers come with a side of slaw and fries, which I swapped for sweet potato fries. If you’re feeling particularly sinful, you can also upgrade your fries to loaded fries, from Chinese chicken curry fries and Mackem classic cheesy chips to pizza fries and steak fries.

There’s also a range of gloriously calorific sides (diet food this is not), such as loaded nachos, chicken wings and onion rings.

We had the halloumi fries and fried chicken strips between us, which were great, but hardly needed with the size of the burgers. The fries too were a huge portion, which we couldn’t fit on the plate in the first sitting.

My bubble (who thought we’deverbecallingpeoplethat) had the Everything’s Beta with Feta from the vegan options – a spinach and falafel patty, topped with a rich red pepper hummus and crumbled tangy

feta, which proved to be a perfect medley of flavours.

We’ve teamed up with No2 ChurchLanetogiveawaymeals delivered to your door. The winner can choose whatever they like from the menu up to a value of £40 to be collected or delivered on a night of their choosing.
