Runner Laura follows a poppy-shaped route
A woman from Washington ran around Washington village in the shape of a poppy in honour of Remembrance Day as part of a competition being held by a running club.
Laura Kerry, a member of Washington Running Club, planned a route around the village in the shape of a poppy to commemorate Remembrance Day.
The run was part of a competition set up by the running club as members can’t run together due to coronavirus restrictions.
Laura said: “The running club have arranged various challenges and competitions to keep everyone busy during lock down.
"I was trying to think of an idea and initially though about doing a flower, my dad gave me the idea of doing a poppy.
"It was something fun to do during lockdown and a way of showing respect on Remembrance Day as the parade in the village had been cancelled.”
The competition is just one challenge the Washington running club have set up to encourage members to keep active during the UK wide lockdown.
Ms Kerry added: “I’ve had a great response from people who have seen the finished piece, especially as Remembrance Sunday events were cancelled so it was nice to still do something to honour it.
"The most difficult bit was actually making the poppy shape because all the roads spout off in different directions!
"I had to keep checking my phone to make sure I was going the right way but it payed off in the end.”
The winner of the Strava art competition is due to be announced at the end of the month.
