Teen arrested after gym car park fight
Po l i c e h ave a r re s t e d a 17-year-old male on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a 17-year-old male suffered serious head injuries following a fight.
A 17-year-old male has been arrested after another male was left with serious head injuries following a fight at about 7pm on Thursday in the Wessington Way area of Sunderland.
The suspect remains in custody and the victim remains in a stable condition as police are investigating the incident.
Police officers cordoned off the DW gym car park in Sunderland on Timber Road with officers and police vehicles guarding the area.
The car park of the large gym, which is closed due to lockdown restrictions was taped off yesterday afternoon.
A Northumbria police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 7pm yesterday (Thursday) we were alerted by the ambulance service to a suspected assault in the Wessington Way area of Sunderland.
“It was reported that a 17-year-old male had suffered serious head injuries following a fight with another teenager believed to be known to him. The male was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
“An investigation is ongoing into the nature of the incident. A 17-year-old male has since been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody. He is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.”
