Enforce the covid rules

-

Your publication of November 18 records there’s been an increase in the number of Coronavius cases in the city during the latest lockdown.

Is it really any wonder? During the first lockdown

the roads were empty of cars, this time around you wouldn't even know there was a lockdown.

I know that schools are open but that cannot account for the number of vehicles on the roads.

Barnes Park, at least among our leaisure parks, was locked up to stop cars entering during the first period, this time around it remains open and the car park off Barnes Park Road is half full every weekday morning.

Most visitors to the park seem to have either forgotten the Government's rules on social distancing or choose to ignore them.

Groups of dog walkers can be seen walking and standing in groups of six or more with little more that twelve inches between them.

During the first lockdown non-essential businesses were closed. Supermarkets, petrol stations, newsagents and the like were open. Takeaways were closed. This time around they are open.

The queues outside Greggs, Costa Coffee and the like are ridiculously long, reminiscent of the supermarket queues at the beginning of lockdown number one.

What is wrong with people, are they incapable of making themselves a sandwich or two?

I notice that the two card shops and other nonessentail businesses in the Bridges are closed. Good for them, they are following the rules.

All these what I call Covidiots who breach the rules will be crying into their takeaway beers come Christmas when everything remains as it is or is forced to lockdown again.

Same with the senseless business owners. I understand some could even go out of business but if they don't follow the rules they may not be here to run their businesses!

For heaven’s sake Northumbria Police enforce the rules as set out by the Government.
