Takeover consortium hint as the Saudi-financed deal drive gets political

-

Newcastle Consortium Supporters Ltd are taking their f i g ht fo r Pre m i e r L ea g ue transparency political, just months after Amanda Staveley’s call to arms saw Newcastle United fans contact MPs en masse.

And this time, as last, the move looks to have the support of the consortium looki n g to ta ke c o ntro l o f th e Magpies before the end of the current Premier League season.

N C S L h ave l au n c h e d a campaign for fans to contact their local MP in hope of getting details of the stalled takeover public.

The aim of this is to put p re s su re o n th e Pre m i e r League to commit to a time frame for the club’s arbitration hearing, which is understood to have been beset by delays due to the actions of the Premier League and their legal firm Bird & Bird.

The @NCSL1892 tweet read: "Read our letter and copy it if you choose & in one click find your MP so you can write demanding that the clubs case is given a time frame and expedited for the good of the fans, the seller and the buyer.”

It was immediately liked by Amanda Staveley’s husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi on Twitter.

This is not the first time the PCP Capital Partners director has taken to social media to show his support for the fan group.

Ghodoussi came out in support of NCSL when they launched their legal action against the Premier League in October along with the l i ke s o f A nt & D e c , Ja m i e Reuben and sports QC Nick De Marco.

Back in August more than 100,000 fans signed a petition for takeover transparency, addressed to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, while MPs across the land received letters from their constituents on the matter, a movement originally organised by Newc a s tl e Un i te d Sup p o r te r s Trust and mirrored now by NCSL.

NCSL have this week rallied the Newcastle United fan base behind their cause, getting public support from the likes of NUST, NUFC Fans United, The Magpie Group, The London Magpie Group and a whole host of other smaller fan groups.

Newcastle Consortium Supporters Ltd look set to take the Premier League to court in relation to what they see as breaches of anti-competition law in the league’s implementation of the owners’ and directors’ test.
