Squad can’t ignore boss speculation – Wright
Bailey Wright admits that Su n d e rl a n d ’s p l aye r s w i l l not ignore speculation over who will be their next manager – as the odds take another twist.
The Black Cats are currently searching for a new manager after the dismissal of Phil Parkinson on Sunday, with Gus Poyet the early favourite with the bookmakers.
But the Uruguayan is now not thought to be a leading c o nt e n d e r – w i t h e x- L i n - coln City and Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley now leading the way in the betting.
And with social media awash with rumours over wh o w i l l suc c e e d Pa rk i nson, Wright says the playing squad won’t be shying away from looking at the names in the frame.
I n d e e d , th e Au s tra l i a n has backed the club’s board to make the right call when it comes to selecting the n e x t m a n a ge r – a n d s ays the new incumbent will be inheriting a ‘hard-working and honest’ set of players, whose eyes are still set on promotion.
"Yo u d o n' t i g n o r e i t , o f c o u r s e yo u d o n't ,” s a i d Wright of the speculation.
"At t h e e n d o f t h e d ay you're going to have a new boss who comes in and like everyone you're curious to see what decisions are made.
"But n oth i n g c h a n ge s , we're here to do a job.
"Who comes in is above us, it's not our control, but I'm sure the right decisions will be made.
"Who does come in will be inheriting a good group, a hard-working and honest group that's prepared for the challenge. We've just got to c o ntro l th e c o ntro l l ab l e s and let the rest sort itself.”
