Council launch festive competitio­ns for residents

The Christmas countdown has begun and residents can take part in the fun from their own homes.

Sunderland City Council is launching new Christmas content each week, including competitio­ns with the chance to win prizes.

These include‘ Best dressed Christmas tree’, ‘Best outdoor lights and decor’, and ‘Best indoor lights and decor’, with the closing date for entries at noon on December 14.

You can also a design a card with categories for under 5; 5 to 10; 10 to 15; and 15 and above. Closing date is noon on December 16. Email entries to events@sunderland.gov.uk with your name, address, competitio­n and category. Visit www.christmasi­nsunderlan­d.co.uk

As well as exciting competitio­ns to enter, there is lots to look forward to this weekend.

The Step Up Sunderland app will have a Christmas makeover with the addition of ten new seasonal badges to collect.

Cllr Linda Williams, Portfolio Holder for Vibrant City, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year and although this year may be a little different there is still lots of fun to be had.

"There will be new activities to get involved with every week, new videos to watch and competitio­ns to enter with the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

"I am especially looking forward to seeing everyone’s fabulous Christmas trees and lights.”
