Mia Mitchelson, a member of First Washington Guides, has raised £627 for Children in Need by walking 10miles.

It was all part of Children in Need’s “Act Your Age” charity drive which was officially partnered with girl guiding where guides were encouraged to raise money with ideas representing their age.

As Mia is 10 years old, she decided that she would walk 10miles to raise money for the charity, setting herself a £100 target.

On November 23, Mi a and her dad Gary walked from Tynemouth Priory to St Mary’s Lighthouse and back, taking almost four hours to

complete the challenge.

Mia’s mum, Jen Mitchelson, has told the Echo how proud she is of her daughter for completing the challenge.

The 36-year-old said: “It’s not easy to walk 10miles so I’m really proud of her for managing to do it.

"She absolutely loved the walk and enjoys doing things for other people as she understands that some are less fortunate than others.

"Mia used the charity work to keep going throughout her walk."

At the time of writing, Mia has raised £627 for the charity and Jen has spoken of her surprise at the amount of money raised.

She added: “I really didn’t expect it. I honestly thought we’d struggle to hit the £100 target.

"This year has been a hard year for so many people so we are really grateful for all the donations and messages of support for Mia.”
