Charity boost by Metro workers

A North East charity have received a Christmas boost from Metro system workers.

Feeding Families has been chosen by staff at Metro operator as their chosen charity for the next year.

The tie-up with the charity will include regular food donations and fundraisin­g activities - starting on Friday, at Gateshead

Interchang­e and Monday, December 21 at Sunderland's Park Lane Interchang­e, when

Nexus staff will be collecting cash donations.

Collection­s also start this week in Nexus buildings and will continue into 2021.

Feeding Families plan to put the money raised towards buying a vehicle, which will allow them to collect and deliver more donations across the area.

Every year the one thousand-strong Nexus workforce selects a charity to support and holds a series of fund-raising events to raise money for that particular good cause.

Martin Kearney, chief operating officer at Nexus, said: “2020 has been challengin­g for all of us, and for families who are really struggling. We’re delighted to be able to add our support to their very worthy cause and provide some relief to families in the North East.

Feeding Families is providing over 7,000 Christmas hampers to families in need in the North East this year.

Juliet Sanders, chief executive officer of Feeding Families said: “We were delighted to hear that Nexus have adopted us as their chosen charity. We are all about communitie­s coming together and to have such a well-known and respected business support us is very exciting and encouragin­g.”
