Kalashnikov can pick up Fitzdares Club prize

-

Kalashnikov can bounce back to winning form with victory in there scheduled Fitzdar es Club Loves The Peterborough Chase at Cheltenham tomorrow.

The two-and-a-half-mile affair was due to be run at Huntingdon last Sunday and Amy Murphy’s stable start was not even in contention for that race due to his preference for a left-handed track.

However, the switch in venue means Kalashnikov will take his chance, with the race conditions putting him ahead of all but Dolos on the official ratings.

The seven-year-old is on something of a retrieval mission this term though, after his last campaign came to a premature end following a second successive lacklustre effort when well beaten by Altior at Newbury in February.

He burst a blood vessel on that occasion and was given plenty of time to recover – a move which appeared to have paid dividends as he made a satisfactory return over hurdles at Haydock last month.

Just over 13 lengths behind prolific winner Main Fact in that Grade Three heat, Kalashnikov found the extended three miles a bit of a stretch on very testing ground, but nevertheless he certainly showed his current well being. Back over two and a half miles in chase company here, with better ground in prospect, Kalashnikov should be fit enough to do himself justice.

While Kalashnikov is seeking a first win since his Grade One victory in April 2019, Court Maid is very much at the other end of the scale in the Unibet Handicap Chase.

Tom Mullins’ Irish raider arrives having won three of her four starts this term, with her only defeat having come on very deep ground at Punchestown last month.

She bounced back with a 13-length demolition job in an ultra-competitive handicap at Fairyhouse just under two weeks ago and she might not have finished improving just yet.

Never us ha con hacked up in the Risk Of Thunder Chase on his recent return and looks a worthy favourite in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase. Fifth in this race last year before going on to be sixth in the Festival event in March,

Neverushacon won what appeared to be an up-to-scratch Punchestown renewal last month, powering home by 11 lengths with the minimum of fuss. He has saved his best for that particular banks course so far, but could take the next step here.

Captain Blackpearl can build on a fine start over fences in Doncaster’s Free

Daily Tips On at the races. com Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase. The six-year-old cantered home by 13 lengths on his initial outing over the bigger obstacles at Kempton, seemingly thriving for a bit of better ground.
