JD’s Bar extend winning streak to strengthen their grip on top spot

Football resumed last weekend after the second lockdown but due to the rain that fell, ten SSK Recruitmen­t Peterlee and District Sunday League matches were postponed due to waterlogge­d pitches or unfit grounds.

I n th e F i r s t D iv i s i o n , Horden JD’s Bar made it six wins from six and as a result of their comfortabl­e 6-3 win against Thornley Harrys Bar, they are now nine points clear at the top of the table.

Their opponents last Sunday Thornley Harrys Bar, are still searching for their first point of the campaign having played five league games.

Joe Bell was the hero for the leaders when he fired home four of his side’s six goals with Daniel Sennett and sub Gary Devine also finding the target. Ryan Lamb (2) and Jack Ward replied for Harrys Bar.

The other game played in the division saw Peterlee Helford United climb up to third in the table after they hammered Seaham the Knack 7-2.

Matthew Smith and Joe Spalding netted a hat-trick each and Aaron Coulson also scored with Darren Ruddick and Jonathan Malkin replying for the Knack.

Only one game went ahead in the Premier Division and Dawdon Welfare Park hit top spot with a 5-1 win against Easington Lane WMC. Niall Crosby earned man of the match for his hat trick. Robbie Bird and Bailey Judson also netted with Jordan Garside notching a consolatio­n for Lane.

In the Second Division, Seaham Oddfellows Arms maintained their 100 perc e nt re c o rd a f te r a h a rd ea r n e d 4 - 2 w i n ove r E a s t Durham FSS with man of the match Jack Appleby notching a superb hat trick. Dave Jones also hit the target while Connor Clough and Christophe­r Black replied for FSS.

Haswell Oddfellows Arms dropped two points in their chase for top spot when they were held to a 4-4 draw against Hetton Lyons FC.

They remain second in the table, now five points behind their derby rivals Seaham Oddfellows Arms. On target for the Haswell side were Alan Iley, Anthony Rookes, Andrew Daley and substitute Billy Dolan whereas Matthew Wray and Logan-Ethan Halliman both netted two goals apiece for the Lyons FC.

In the Heart Foundation Cup second round, South Hetton Cricket Club bowed out of the competitio­n when they were second best, losing 5-0 to the powerful Sedgefield St Edmunds side.
